A Message from our CEO: Weekly Newsletter and Wishes for a Happy Lunar New Year

Last week, we kicked off our Weekly Newsletter, with wishes for a Happy Chinese New Year.

As I reflect on the year ahead for SHERPA Sustainability Institute, it occurs to me that this is the first time in over 30 years that Chinese New Year (CNY) and Spring Festival has not dictated my schedule! As many of you know, my career has been in design, development and manufacturing of products; mainly lighting and furnishings - produced throughout Asia. The months and especially weeks leading up to CNY were always a mad rush - finalizing product development, pushing production out the doors and onto containers.

Pictured here is the view, from the steps on Lotus Mountain, overlooking the town I called home for a decade. Chang’an is situated in Southeast China, between Shenzhen and Dongguan. The Lotus Mountain stairs are quite a climb! No matter where you go in the world, someone will recognize the “A” on a ball cap. On that hike up the countless stairs, I got a “Roll Tide!”

Cessation of production during CNY was both a blessing and a curse; a forced time to pause and reflect, with pandemonium on either side of Spring Festival. During this week, there would be a moment to catch breath, with an underlying question of how many workers would return back to the factories and offices from their home provinces, after the end of festivities. The largest migration of humans happens this time every year in Asia, as they return to their home region to reflect and be thankful.

This second picture is from an inspection of pendant lighting in an Asian factory – always good to see production completed before CNY!

As CEO of SHERPA Sustainability Institute, I am noting how busy we remain here during Spring Festival. We just started Spring Term for CISR Practitioner and Expert; CISR Facilitator (our Green Belt equivalent), is launching in just one month. While we aren’t slowing down, I will take this opportunity to keep some of the traditions that have become so familiar to me during CNY. I would like to thank all of our CISR Coaches and Collaborators for the work they have done over the past year. The accomplishments by our Certified CISR Practitioners and Experts are also appreciated and a great source of pride. We have audacious goals to change the world; everyone who makes up the SHERPA Family (including those reading now) brings this vision to life. With many thanks, I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year – Xinnian Kuaile!
